Kelowna Made Belly Flop Championship

August 27, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Register for The Kelowna Made Belly Flop Championship here!

Rules and Regulations:

All participants must complete a registration form and waiver. Waiver forms will be available at sign-in.

Competitors must be 19+.

Due to equipment restrictions, the maximum weight capacity is 350lbs to ensure the safety of all competitors

The 2022 competition will welcome 15 competitors. The first 10 competitors will be entered on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional competitors will go into a lottery and will be notified by August 24th if they have been awarded a spot.

A detailed schedule for each competitor will be emailed out August 25th. Competitors are encouraged to come and cheer on their fellow belly floppers for the duration of the event from 2:00-3:30 pm.

Any competitor appearing to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol or that is being verbally or physically aggressive to the other competitors, judges, spectators or volunteers will not be permitted to participate.

The on-site Belly Flop Manager reserves the right to ask competitors to remove any costume pieces that may be deemed unsafe for “flopping”, diving or swimming.

How to Prepare!

We encourage all competitors to practice their belly flop technique before the 27th! At the start of the competition, a coach from the Kelowna Springboard Diving Club will share some tips for executing the perfect belly flop!

Competitors are encouraged to wear a costume for their flop as it is part of the scoring, but please make sure it is something you can safely swim in. An appropriate bathing suit must be worn under your costume in case you are asked to remove any of the costume pieces.

If you want EXTRA points, come prepared with a clean, family-friendly joke to tell before your dive!

Judging:

There will be a panel of 3 judges to score each dive. Competitors will be marked on:

  • Style
  • Costume
  • Personality (extra points for telling a joke before your dive)
  • Technique
  • Splash

Placements for 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be awarded at the end of the competition. Special awards will be given for things like “Best Costume”.
